• Please note that it is NOT required to schedule a wellness exam prior to scheduling your cat for a spay or neuter surgery. Our surgeon will perform a preoperative exam the morning of surgery that is included in your surgical fee. 

• GENDER: If you are unsure of the gender of the cat having surgery, please schedule the cat as a female. 

• AGE AND WEIGHT: The minimum weight requirement to have surgery is two (2.0) lbs. All cats and kittens must be at least two (2) months old and in good health to have surgery. 

• CARRIERS & TRANSPORT: We require every cat to arrive for surgery in their own hard plastic carrier (soft carriers should be a last resort). No cardboard carriers will be allowed because cats can chew out of them. One cat per carrier, NO doubling up. Any cat that does not arrive in a secure cat carrier will be required to purchase a hard plastic cat carrier from us for $24.00. IT IS NOT SAFE to transport a cat or kitten in your arms, on a harness and leash or loose inside your vehicle. 

• HEALTH STATUS: We will not perform surgery on cats or kittens with active illness such as upper respiratory infection or ringworm. No exceptions. When scheduling, please advise us if your cat or kitten has been diagnosed with or treated for any illness. 

• MOTHER CATS & NURSING: Female cats that are in heat or pregnant are able to be spayed at the discretion of the veterinarian. Mother cats that are still nursing unweaned kittens can be scheduled for surgery to be done after the kittens are old enough to eat on their own (6-8 wks old) once surgery.

• FERAL CATS: We perform a limited number of surgeries for feral cats each week. A feral cat is defined as being wild, unsocialized to humans and NOT handleable. Please see below for additional feral cat resources. For the safety of our veterinary team and the animal, ALL FERAL CATS MUST ARRIVE IN A HUMANE TRAP. Feral cats will NOT be accepted in carriers or wire crates. There are no exceptions to this policy. Feral cat TNR surgeries can be scheduled online, and the fee is $90.00 for the Feral Cat Package. If you require income-based assistance, please contact surgery@sfof.org. Free TNR surgeries (donation based) are available through the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon. 

• The entire surgical fee will be collected at the time of scheduling and will act as your non-refundable deposit. 

**Please DO NOT USE THE ONLINE SCHEDULING if you qualify for our Income-Based assistance programs. If you qualify for a reduced rate please schedule surgery by emailing surgery@sfof.org. If you schedule surgery online and qualify for a reduced rate but pay the full fee, we will not be able to reimburse you. 

The standard surgery fees include a preoperative physical exam, spay or neuter surgery, pain medication, and an elizabethan collar for use after surgery. The fees are as listed below. 

• $90.00 for a spay (female cat)
• $70.00 for a neuter (male cat)
• $90.00 for a cryptorchid neuter (a male with undescended testes) 
• There are no additonal charges for pregnancy or a heat cycle.
• A no-call/no-show to a scheduled appointment requires rescheduling by email to surgery@sfof.org.
• Rescheduling a surgery will not require any additional deposit, but please note that due to high demand, the next available surgery date may be weeks out. 

The Wellness Package is $90.00 and includes the following items at the time of surgery (or you can purchase them individually if you prefer): 

• Rabies vaccine: $15.00
• FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calici and Panleukopenia) vaccine: $10.00 or FREE *while supplies last*
• Profender (broad-spectrum topical dewormer): $20.00
• Revolution (topical flea prevention): $10.00
• Microchip (includes registration): $20.00
• FIV/FeLV test: $25.00

We are able to offer free FVRCP (Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici iand Panleukopenia) vaccines *while supplies last* through a generous donation and partnership with the Petco Love Foundation.  

Income-based assistance programs are available to remove the financial barriers that make it difficult for owners to afford spay or neuter surgery for their cats or kittens. 

The Schroth Grant Program

To qualify for the Schroth Grant Program (formerly known as our voucher program), the owner of the cat must be enrolled in one of the three following government programs; WIC, Housing Assistance or Social Security Disability Income (SSDI). 

Spay It Forward Program

This program is designed to assist cat owners with spay or neuter fees when they don't qualify for our Schroth Grant Program.
